Susan Sarandon Biography

Born in New York City, Sarandon started her career after attending a Democratic convention in 1968, attending a casting call for the 1970 movie JOE where she and first husband Chris Sarandon both auditioned. Their marriage lasted 12 years. With her cult classic role of Janet Weiss in 1975's THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, Susan became known as the go-to actress to get when you needed someone both soft around the edges but a little hardened as well. Working steadily for over 30 years, she was often nominated for Oscar awards but frequently passed over, speculated reasons behind which being her outspoken liberal political leanings. However, in 1996 she finally took home a Best Actress Oscar for her work in DEAD MAN WALKING, opposite Sean Penn. Currently Sarandon is prepping for the sequel to the original WALL STREET, slated for a 2010 release.
