Julie Benz Biography

Actress Julie Benz was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to a surgeon father and an ice skater mother, a sport that Julie took up as a young child, even competing in the 1988 U.S. Championships in junior ice dancing with her partner David Schilling where they came in 13th. When her ice skating career came to a halt in 1989 after an injury, she turned to acting where her first introduction to the screen was in the Black Cat episode of an Argento/Romero co-directed movie, Due Occhi Diabolici. Doing time in small bit parts on television, Benz first was noticed as on the WB's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," which lead to her getting a reoccurring role on another WB series, "Roswell." She picked up her vamp role of Darla on the spin-off show, "Angel," and has had a hit-or-miss movie career, including roles in SAW V, PUNISHER: WARZONE and the 2008 edition of RAMBO. Benz returned to television on a regular basis with her character Rita on the popular cable network show, "Dexter."
