Moore was born to a military judge and Scottish social worker in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She moved all over the world during her childhood until settling at Boston University where she obtained a B.F.A. degree in acting in 1983. Most of her earliest acting experiences came from daytime soap operas, including "The Edge of the Night" and "As the World Turns." During the 1990's she was often cast as the best friend to the lead actress, including her turns in THE HAND THE ROCKS THE CRADLE and BENNY & JOON. Becoming a favorite of Robert Altman, the actress started to gain acclaim in the legendary director's films for her unflinching bravery and willingness to appear nude, including her infamous bottomless scene in SHORT CUTS. During the late 1990's and well into her 20's, Moore's career picked up during a age bracket where most actresses have trouble finding work. She stepped in for Laura Dern when they needed a lead in THE LOST WORLD and then became the indie woman of favor, appearing in THE BIG LEBOWSKI, and MAGNOLIA in eye-catching roles. Nearing her 50th birthday in 2010, the actress continues to be a hot commodity, starring with younger acting sensation Amanda Seyfried in 2009's seductive CHLOE and with another aging actress, Annette Bening in 2010's THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT.
